Human Motion Institute Celebrates Olympic Day with Olympic Athlete Appearance

Indiana, Pennsylvania – The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Indiana, as the Human Motion Institute hosts “Showcasing the Olympic Movement” in celebration of Olympic Day.

On June 20, at 1:00pm at the Human Motion Institute medical complex on IRMC Drive, Olympian Sam Sacksen will speak about his Olympic experience as an athlete in the Modern Pentathlon, a sport that comprises five events – fencing, swimming, shooting, equestrian and running. Also speaking will be Dr. Craig McKirgan, orthopaedic surgeon from the Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. McKirgan has been a member of the medical team for the U.S. Olympic Committee since 1996.

“We are excited to take part in Olympic Day and inspire athletes and sports enthusiasts of all ages in the Indiana community to learn more about Olympic ideals and values,” said Tracey Missien, Director of the Human Motion Institute. “The Human Motion Institute is proud to support the Olympic Movement and encourage children and adults to lead healthy, active lives.”

The Human Motion Institute Olympic Day activity is one of more than 700 events taking place nationwide between June 14 and 30. The events, designed to engage youth and promote the spirit of the Olympic movement, feature athlete appearances, family-friendly activities and interactive learning experiences.

Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on the Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship. In the U.S., Olympic Day events range from small gatherings to large, city-wide events.
