Indiana Regional Medical Center (IRMC) marked the beginning of their 100th year serving the greater Indiana County community with the announcement of an expansion to their current facility as well as a capital campaign to raise the dollars needed to build the foundation for another 100 years of service.
“As the state of healthcare continues to evolve in the country, we at IRMC have an obligation to our patients and our community to continue to evolve as well. If we are to remain the strong, independent community hospital our citizens have come to depend upon, we have to advance with the times. This project will help propel us forward into our next century of service,” stated Steve Wolfe, IRMC CEO.
In November of 1914, IRMC first opened its doors to the public as a 40 bed facility with 13 private rooms. Today, as IRMC begins its 100th year of operation, the facility resides on a 50-acre main campus with 164 beds while serving nearly 250,000 patients annually. IRMC has also grown to be the 2nd largest employer in Indiana County with over 1300 employees.
The Centennial Building Project will expand upon the current services offered by IRMC with new Operating Room Suites, a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), a 15 bed Post-Acute Care Unit, an Endoscopy Unit, and a Linear Accelerator (LINAC), as well as numerous structural and patient service upgrades to the current facility. In all, the project will renovate about 45,000 square feet of the current facility and include approximately 40,000 square feet of new construction.
“As we celebrate our first 100 years of service to our community, there is no better time than the present to begin building the state of the art facility needed to continue to serve our patients for the next 100 years,” said Todd Brice, Chairman of the Board of Directors at IRMC.
The project is slated to be funded with a combination of current cash assets, long-term financing, as well as a Centennial Capital Campaign geared toward raising $5 million from private donors.
The Indiana Healthcare Foundation, the fundraising wing of IRMC, in announcing the official start of the Centennial Capital Campaign acknowledged the five lead contributors to the campaign thus far: First Commonwealth, the Kovalchick Family, the Reschini Group, Rosebud Mining Company, and S&T Bank.
With the generosity of these contributors as well as many others, Campaign Co-Chairs Joe Reschini (President, The Reschini Group) and Mike Price (CEO, First Commonwealth) were pleased to announce that the campaign had already raised $2 million of its $5 million goal.
“The support we have received from the community as well as from our own employees has been overwhelming. Their dedication and commitment to maintaining our community hospital is the reason we are able to celebrate our first 100 years with an eye towards another successful 100 years in front of us,” noted Joe Reschini, Indiana Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors Chariman.
